ATT Cell Phone in Canada? Prepaid phone cost in Canada?
I have a couple questions. I will be driving from Washington to Alaska through Canada next month and I am one of those people that has a cell phone permanently attatched to their ear.
Anyway what I am wondering is 1) Will my cell phone with ATT be roaming when I am in Canada? and 2) What is the average cost of a prepaid phone, I will only be in Canada three days so just a couple hundred minutes (2 or 300) would be good.
Any help or suggestions, I want to avoid a huge cell phone bill because of roaming charges.
1) Of course you’ll be roaming. You’re not from Canada, and AT&T is not a Canadian provider. You will be outside the service area your provider covers. Check with your service provider for the roaming costs.
2) You’ll have to live without your mobile for part of your trip. AT&T uses GSM technology (similar to Rogers & Fido) and there is no GSM coverage in the Yukon Territory. You’re also likely to find very limited, if any, coverage in northern BC. Mobile phone service in these areas is generally restricted to the communities, so you will not find the continuous coverage along the highway like you do in areas with a denser population.
