Great Cingular Cell Phone Deals

Help on cell phones please..?
Hey, everyone, I’m going to buy my first cell phone ever (yeah I know, loser right?) lol.
Anyway, I’m not that big on phone calls, but I guess it’s time I should get a cell because there have been many times where I’m like “damn it, I wish I had a cell right now” when I get lost or if the person I’m waiting on is taking forever.
Well, which plan would be best to get? I’ve hear Metro PCS is good, but then my friend told me about Cingular and I’m pretty much confused to which way to go.. I would like one of those pay-as-you-go kind of things. Like a month to month type of plan, no contracts. Unless getting the contract is better.. IDK.. I already have internet at home, so don’t really care for it in my phone, unless it comes with the deal, then whatever.
And if you guys could point me in the direction of a good, reliable phone with a good battery life, that would be great. I’m not looking for an iPhone type of phone that comes with all kinds of stuff.
What was Cingular is now AT&T Wireless, so don’t spin your wheels looking under C in your phone book.
Everything costs extra on a cell phone so if you want voice only, a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go will probably work for you, but you should also consider bundling services from one provider. For example, my having AT&T wireless gets me a $10 a month discount on my DSL and having the two bills combined gets me a $5 a month discount on the wireless. Neither of those discounts would apply without a contract. Because of free mobile to mobile and roll-over minutes, I don’t even have a landline, so that saves me a nice chunk of change each month.
I guess the first thing you need to do is see which providers serve your area. Then instead of calling all of them or driving all over town, just go to a store that sells many different ones, Best Buy for example. They can help you sort out what will work for you, you don’t necessarily have to buy from them. Narrow it down and then see if those providers have better prices online. They usually do. If you’re uncomfortable about ordering online, just call and say you saw the promotion or sale online and they’ll probably honor that over the phone too.
